Abstract
The wood mechanical characterization is difficult on account of the anisotropy of this material. A new practically non-destructive testing method, founded on the penetration strength determination of a translating and rotating drill, permits to characterize wood cohesiveness, independently of anisotropy. The measurement of average value of R(x),for a wood thickness. Δx, taking into account several rings, yields Ro. The variation-coefficient on Ro is smaller than 3 %for several tests carried out on a same sample.
The twisting moment values, C(x), connected with the drill rotation and measured by this method are more uncertain.
Dynamostratigraphy tests will have to be normalized, but from that moment it is possible to do differential tests between species or between physical or chimical treatments on a same species.
