Plasticité du bois en compression simple
Mechanical behaviour of wood under compressive loading
Laboratoire de Rhéologie du Bois, Bordeaux
Abstract
This paper describes the mechanical behaviour of wood under compressive loading for large strains. For this study, only uniaxial tests are reported. For improving them, the idea is to use short samples to avoid slip plane formation during the compression, in order to be able to describe behaviour of wood up to the densification.
The influences of density, moisture content and temperature on the mechanical compressive behaviour have been taken into account. Data have been completed by results impact tests, made with the Hopkinson test apparatus, which shows that density is not systematically the best parameter to describe the wood behaviour. According to the mechanical energy absorption, we can also prove that this material is as performant as other cellular materials like honeycombs and foams.
