Situation des traitements de surface du titane (et de ses alliages) face à l’amélioration des propriétés tribologiques
Evolution of surface-treatments concerning titanium and its alloys for their tribological applications (friction and wear)

Abstract
In this paper, the surface-treatments and friction results are divided in different parts : treatments with low or high interactions with the substrate, according to the thermodynamic laws, non equilibrium reactions during deposition, mechanical surface treatments.
It is shown that, actually, it is difficult to establish a methodic classification of surface layers for a correct friction performance application, in consideration of the variety of parameters in mechanical systems, using the titanium alloys family.
