Abstract
Double-lap bonded joint experimental study agrees with elastic analytical calculation in the central part of the overlapping, on about the two-thirds of its length. Microflaw initiation and crack growth appear through a non-linear behaviour, that is detected by electrical strain gauges, which are installed along the outer adherends, and by a superficial microstrain profile which differs from the theoretical one. Measures are interpreted by a shear modulus that varies along the tested sample. A numerical method furnishes an estimation inferior to the nominal value by reason of joint imperfections.
