Adhesives statement of the French (AFNOR) and international (ISO) standardization

(AFNOR)

Abstract

We intend to describe the French and international standardization in the field of adhesives.

We will take the opportunity to present some information about the standardization procedures.

This paper is divided in three parts.

The first part defines the fondamental concepts of standard and standardization.

The second part describes all the French standards and the items of work. We find three kinds of standards :

• –

  generals (definitions and classification of adhesives),

• –

  general test methods of characterization,

• –

  test methods of structural adhesives.

The third part describes all the international standards and the items of work. For each standard we have put forward the essential particularities.

We draw attention to the recent developments of the french standardization works, which concern the determination of intrinsic properties of adhesives in the massive state and in the form of joint.
