Abstract

The last ten years have brought about a considerable increase in the demonstrative use of composite products. A worldwide industrial structure is being built up to respond to the market for composites, although it is still in its infancy.

The purpose of this paper is the attempt to answer two main questions relative to the European aircraft market :

  which markets are planning for investments in composites activities, and is this justified ?

• —

  if composites are meant to substitute aluminium alloys, can they provide the same guarantee performances ?
