Abstract
This paper reports the study of aluminium/ aluminium oxide/ primer/ adhesive interphases. The first part concerns the characterization of the mechanical properties of different joints before and after aging in hot-wet environments. The second part concerns the physical and chemical characterization by TEM and EDS of the different components of the joint. The main result shows that an accelerated aging of the primer layer before bonding induces an important deterioration of the mechanical resistance of the system after bonding. This phenomenon is apparently due to a lower adherence of the adhesive on the primer layer coming from the presence of water at and near the interface. On an other way, microanalytical techniques allow to gain very important information on different components (particularly on the oxide and the primer layers) and on the modification induced by aging.
