Abstract
The use of multilayer samples of low density polyetylene in photo-oxidation experiments leads to the following observations :
- —
In the early stages of exposure, the reaction is diffusion controlled, the oxidation is slower in internal than in superficial layers.
- —
The permeability to oxygen increases during degradation so that the diffusion control disappears progressively. Thus, the kinetic parameters and the distribution of reaction products in the sample thickness undergo important changes during exposure.
