Endurance of hot formed springs
Laboratoire de Métallurgie-Physique-Matériaux – ERA CNRS 732 Ecole Centrale de Lyon
Abstract
Trough the literature about spring-steels and some real examples of fatigue failures investigated in laboratory, the authors examine main metallurgical parameters able to get endurance of hot formed springs modified. They particularly study surface conditions the influence of which is not well-known (roughness, decarburization, shotpeening action) and show it must be taken in account their definitions for fatigue endurance.
