Influence des sulfures alcalins en solution sur la corrosion d'aciers inoxydables en milieux « carbonates de potassium chauds »
Centre d’Etudes de Chimie Métallurgique, P.C.U.K.
Abstract
A drastic corrosion in a chemical plant was observed with the 306 L type stainless steel used in hot potassium carbonate-bicarbonate solutions. We focus in the present paper on the influence of sodium sulfide upon the passivation behaviour of various stainless in different experimental conditions, under air pressure and under a 20 bar CO2 pressure. Electrochemical parameters are determined and analysed for these stainless steels. The pernicious role of the sulfide upon their passivation aptitude is pointed out hereunder. Surface studies by A.E.S. (Auger electron spectrometry), E.D.A.X. (Energy dispersion of X ray analysis) reveal the sulfur presence on the corroded steel surfaces.
