Abstract
We are interested in this work to the study of corrosion of painted carbon steel in aerated sodium chloride 3% medium by using electrochemical and physical techniques. This study has shown that all the paints reduce the corrosion rate of metallic substrate, nevertheless, the difference in the corrosion process of painted carbon steel was found depending on the paint used.
The electrochemical results were consistent with those obtained by exposure tests in spray salt and atomic absorption methods.
Microscopical examination has revealed the pre-existence of defects and formation of corrosion products at the film surface, which have been identified by X-ray analysis.
