Electrochemistry provides tools against corrosion

Abstract
In order to optimalise the performance of the conditioning of water cooling circuits using recirculating and which work in the following conditions : average concentration ratio 6, overall salinity > 1500 mg/litre, overall average hardness 100°F, Cl- ions 420 mg/litre, one must have data which is often obtained with the help of techniques which have a very long response time (up to 1 month). Electrochemistry and especially corrosiveness taken from polarization resistances, enables one to know within a relatively short time span (less than one hour) to what extent an aqueous medium attacks the constitutive materials of circuits.
By operating with the cells described in the enclosures one gets results which are similar to those obtained by conventional methods (corrosion coupons, corrosimeters). The polarization resistance measurements recommended by us can enable a specialty laboratory to :
- —
quickly choose the most suitable formulation among those available or on offer,
- —
appreciate the efficiency of the treatment in use and alter its direct application.
