Abstract
The peel test is developped to assess adhesive strength or to compare different adhesively bonded joints. In that respect our attention will particulary to be drawn on the characterization of adhesive bonded steel sheets behaviour, being taken into account the speed of peeling. The interpretation of the experimental data is not as straightforward when plastic deformation takes place. An analysis of the peeling of the thin flexible strip bonded to a rigid substrate reveals the effect of several parameters, such as peel angle, mechanical properties of the film on the peel strength. The energy dissipated due to inelastic bending of the substrate and the influence of the peel angle needs to be taken into account.
In that respect, we propose a set-up specified for T peel test for sheet to sheet assembly. This mounting enables us to mesure the energy dissipated due to the deformation of the substrate and to determine fracture energy.
