Abstract
To increase security and reliability of installations, a good knowledge of mechanical and metallurgical properties of steels used to build pressured apparatus (tanks) is necessary, specially their toughness, measured on test-pieces of sufficient size.
This article compares toughness results between thin test-pieces taken out of different points of a section, and thick test-pieces representing the real section of an important structure.
The author also gives toughness values concerning welded joints, after the same heat treatment than the real iron piece.
