Abstract
This paper seeks to ilustrate the design process in which material and treatment selection is made. This analysis shows that an optimum material selection requires taking into account the material aspect at every stage of the design process. Current evolutions of design methods, especially the growing use of simultaneous engineering, call for a greater integration of material selection in the design process.
