Abstract
Transportation modes mentioned in this paper are exposed to very harsh environmental conditions during their exploitation. Consequently, their manufacturers have set up corrosion prevention procedures, based on an comprehensive understanding of several factors : the materials and their intrinsic behaviour towards the various shapes of corrosion, the environments (aggressivity of medium, applied stresses) and the protection means.
Corrosion test used to evaluate and characterize the corrosion resistance of these structures are, on the one hand, standardized tests, and on the other hand, specific tests designed to reproduce conditions more representative of effective service conditions.
This paper presents a state of the knowledge about corrosion behaviour of aeronautical, railway and naval structures.
