Abstract
In order to estimate the contact fatigue evolution of a bearing steel Z100CDI7, simplified tests on a ball/plane contact have been conducted on an Amsler Vibrophore, in liquid nitrogen.
The hertzian contact has been modelised to estimate the deformation induced by the normal effort applied.
The influence of the microstructure and especially primary carbides on initiation and propagation of fatigue cracks has been studied in optical and secondary electronic microscopy. The observations realised in scanning electron microscopy have shown an intresting evolution of the initial martensitic microstructure to ferrite resulting of the imposed cyclic sollicitations.
