The experimental high speed cold rolling of cemef : 10 years of activity

Abstract

In order to have better understanding of cold rolling and its lubrification, an experimental rolling mill has been realized at CEMEF in the 80's. It is intermediate between laboratory tribometers which have not enough similarity with the rolling process and the industrial tools. This experimental rolling mill work at a laboratory scale ; designed to roll narrow strips, it is intrumented and able of industrial performances. It is the only specimen in Europe to reach the speed of 20 m/s. Relatively easy to use, the rolling mill and its environnment have provided a better knowledge of cold rolling tribology of flat products.
