Tornac hydrogenated NBR
Polysar Technical Centre N.V., Antwerp, Belgium
The automotive industry is the main area where technical elastomers are used. In recent, the conditions to which the elastomeric parts are subjected, have become more severe because of higher underbonnet temperature and the need for higher standards of quality and reliability. To meet these demands, the elastomer industry has developed new products with improved performance. The workhorse oil resistant elastomers, nitrile rubber NBR, has reached its performance limits and has been replaced in severe applications by VMQ, ACM, FPM, ECO, CM...
Polysar has recently introduced Tornac Rubber : A new family of elastomers known as hydrogenated nitrile rubbers (HNBR's). Although derived from regular NBR's these material have much superior chemical resistance, thermal resistance, dynamic and physical properties. In many instances HNBR's offer a balance of properties not attainable with other often more costly elastomers.
