Abstract
An elastohydrodynamic study is performed for the ceramic contact in water, the results are given for the sintered silicone carbide (SSiC).
This particular material has been choosen because of its good properties of inoxydability and its possibility to crate a film between the surfaces.
This analysis is based upon the work of S.M. Rhode. It deals with the calculation of the pressure distribution, the film thickness between the two matting surfaces, the friction coefficient and the deformation of the contact surfaces.
The numerical modelisation was applied to the configuration of a SSiC shaft/bearing immersed in water. Pressure, film thickness, elastic displacement and friction coefficient are given. The film thickness is very small: about few tenths micrometer, and the deformations of the surface elements are 10 times smaller, due to the good conformity of the surfaces.
