Les matériaux composites suscitent des progrès technologiques dans l'industrie automobile
Technological advances in the use of composite materials for the automotive industry
Chef de la Division Industrie de l'AFME
Abstract
Essential advances in car manufacture will depend on the specific use of improved or new materials. Polymer matrix composites are more and more considered as promising materials by designers, taking into account the possibility to produce three dimensional "net shape" components.
A review of technological trends is discussed, with the objective to outline major breakthroughs achieved in France.
Metal matrix composites and ceramic matrix composites present a potential for advanced end- uses, in the medium and long term. Cost effective processes are expected to provide the enhanced mechanical properties which are needed.
