Abstract
Linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) associated with a finite element calculation has been used for mode I (opening) delamination on two types of specimen, DCB (Double Cantilever Beam) and SCB (Single Cantilever Beam). The SCB was first introduced for mode I tests at high rates by Boudjemaa [1].
The results show the validity of the tests on this new SCB specimen, both by an energy approach using GIc and with respect to the strain field near crack tip.
The finite element calculation requires knowledge of critical load at crack initiation. This value can only be obtained experimentally. The calculation has allowed us to verify that the two specimen types, SCB and DCB, are energetically equivalent.
The analytical calculation has enabled the dependence of GI on the longitudinal strain to be established.
