The organic coatings : present knowledges

Abstract
The various organic coatings are : bituminous coatings, paints and varnishes. The chemical and physical properties of each type of products are recalled. Particularly, paint film-forming occurs due to various mechanisms which are : solvent evaporation, oxidation in air and polymerization. Presented according to their types of film-forming, the various paint binders are described with, namely, vinylic and epoxydic resins but also alkydes paints. The choice of pigments and extendus in paints is also treated, in taking into account their use properties. At last, the so-called « new paints » are presented. It deals with powders, high dry paints and water paints.
