Abstract
Velocity accommodation sites and modes governing load carrying capacity, friction and wear in a new wet clutch have been studied. This cluch operates under continuous slipping conditions, one of the friction material used is a graphitic composite recently manufactured.
Tests were conducted on the Valeo tribometer which is a modified SAE device, and on the very accurate “LMC Pedeba” alternating linear tribometer.
Both theoretical (hydrodynamic) and experimental results have been compared and indicate that the lubricant does not provide complete separation of the disc faces.
Surface morphology of the graphitic composite, which is modified by friction has a strong influence on the tribologic behaviour of this contact.
