Evolution under Mechanical Solicitation of Hydrogen - Tightness of Molybdenum Coatings

Abstract
Desorption experiments are used to test hydrogen-tightness of molybdenum coatings under mechanical solicitation. The experiment necessitated the construction of a small-sized ultra-vacuum tensile testing machine. The tested molybdenum coatings (nickel substrate of purity less than 99 % and austenitic stainless steel substrate) are hydrogen tight without external mechanical solicitation. There is a gradual and continuous loss of the hydrogen tightness of the deposit when mecanically solicitated.
