Le comportement des aciers inoxydables en milieux chlorures
The behaviour of stainless steels in media with a high chloride content
Laboratoire de Chimie et Corrosion, Sulzer Frères
Abstract
The behaviour of different kinds of stainless steel in media with a high chloride content was studied with the aid of conventional electrochemical methods and by determining the weight loss of the materials at high flow velocity and in the presence of cavitation.
The results obtained have shown that the behaviour of stainless steels can be considerably influenced by the composition of the medium, in particular by the suspended particle content. The differences between the investigated austenitic and austenitic-ferritic steels are slight in nonpolluted chloride solutions even at high velocities. However, the electrochemical data suggest that austenitic-ferritic steels behave slightly better.
Martensitic steels cannot be generally used in such media. Although the behaviour of these steels can be improved by increasing the chromium content or by adding copper, the requirements for practical application are generally not met.
