Abstract
Extrusion screws in the waste plastics industry are submitted to abrasive and corrosive wear. In order to increase their durability, coatings produced by atmospheric plasma spraying were designed and realised.
Three types of powders (two cermets and one ceramic) were tested for this specific application : chromium carbide / nickel - chromium, tungsten carbide / nickel - chromium and chromium oxide.
In situ experiments showed interesting corrosion and wear resistance properties for the tungsten carbide / nickel chromium coating.
